File Transfer Utility

Introduction

The File Transfer Utility provides a way to download files from the Internet on a schedule. This may be useful if, for example, you require a local copy of an online data file that is updated each day.

Once you have downloaded the software, unzip the FileTransfer.exe file to an appropriate directory (e.g. you could place it in a folder on your Desktop called "File Transfer"). If you have been supplied with a pre-defined configuration file then place this in the same directory.

Main Screen

After running the FileTransfer.exe program you should see a screen like the image below. When you are happy with the settings, click the Start button to run the download process. Please click on areas of the image for more detailed information about each function.

Configuration Screen

Specify one or more configurations to define which file(s) to download each time the process runs. Please click on areas of the image for further details.

Running Automatically

You can simulate clicking the Start button after the program has loaded by using a command line parameter of "/Autorun", for example:

"%UserProfile%\Desktop\File Transfer\FileTransfer.exe" "/Autorun"

Use this option if you would like to run the process automatically, for example, by configuring Windows Task Scheduler. If you have set a frequency of zero then the program will close after completing the download process once, otherwise it will continue to run.

NB - You should ensure the frequency is set to zero if you configure Windows Task Scheduler to run the program unattended on a schedule.
